Al's wacky bubble machine
Proud to be walking the sidewalk....
First of all, I should give the disclaimer right away that Anne is writing this, despite not actually experiencing the events. But we're about to head out for camping and we don't want to delay on sharing Scott and Ava's trip up to Appleton!Okay, now that we have the disclaimer out of the way....Scott and Ava traveled up to Appleton during the week to visit with Grandma Randi and Grandpa Al. It was actually Anne's first night away from Ava, which felt a bit odd. The house does look a lot cleaner for it, though!
Ava had a lot of fun firsts - experiencing a backyard swimming pool and bubbles of unusual size, visiting the animals at the Hortonville petting zoo, and being able to run on sidewalks. (Our neighborhood doesn't have any sidewalks, so this actually was Ava's first sidewalk experience.)
The petting zoo sounded like it was especially fun. Ava got to pet a baby kangaroo, wolf, prairie dog, goat, llama and much more. The bird house pictured above was a favorite spot - Ava ran after the birds and didn't want to leave. Also, the goat in the picture above kept trying to eat the drawstring on Ava's shorts which must have tickled, as she reached out and tickled the goat back!
Randi and Al had Anne's parents over for a cookout, so Ava was able to hang out with both grandmas, both grandpas, and great-grandpa. All parties described her as charming - sharing the love equally among everyone.
Feel so lucky to have such a great group of grandparents that adore Ava so much!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. You guys are great at keeping up with your blog. Ava is growing so quickly. My husband and I were at the travel conference back in November and we remember when we saw Ava for the first time. We visit your blog regularly to see all Ava's adventures as it helps us in the long journey to our daughter that we are waiting for in China. Thanks for sharing your lives with people like us who are waiting.

It's a good thing you included a disclaimer, Anne, otherwise, I'd have expected you to know the zoo's GREENville (Horton's neighbor). :) We heard about Ava's trip to the Special Memories Zoo (and her love of the aviary) and decided to visit today to see if the zoo captivated Jamie & Brendan like it did Ava. Fun, fun place! You'll want to join her on her next outing there. She'll probably teach you a thing or two about her favorite species of birds! Tweet. Tweet.
It makes me smile to know that someone can have a great first walk down a sidewalk. She really looks like she's loving it. Next thing you know she'll be taking the bus. (:
