Anne's brother (uncle) Dan & (aunt) Juliana from Chicago visited this weekend, and it was their first time meeting Ava. When they arrived Friday night Ava was already sawing logs. Dan said, "Wow. I can't believe she's actually up there!" Come to think of it, that's nearly exactly what we said the day we stepped off the bus at the Chongqing orphanage.
Right on cue, Ava was up at 6. While Dan and Ju slept in the basement, Ava played with her toys on the wooden floor above them. Hilarious. "Top 'o the mornin'!" They were up early to greet her. When Dan emerged from the basement, crazy hair and all, Ava was ready for action. She immediately offered Dan a plastic, rattling cookie toy, which has this Pavlovian way of making mom and dad say, "shake shake shake" every time she picks it up. We all spent the rest of the day watching her and playing, including lunch out for Mexican food and a short, ridiculously windy hike at a nearby park. Aunt Ju, from hot n' humid Brazil, was just a tad cold.
Throughout the day, we found ourselves talking to Dan and Ju about assorted bowel movements and the like. Why can't people just find the inherent beauty in these conversations????
Next day... Right on cue, Ava was up at FIVE. Thank you daylight savings time. Thanks. Thanks much.
The weekend culminated with a visit from Scott's brother (uncle) David and his girlfriend, Caitlin. We grilled brats and ate fried cheese curds. This following a stunning Packers victory, I might add. David read a little If Chins Could Kill (Confessions of a B Movie Actor), by Bruce Campbell to Ava (pictured), and Mom and Dad showed off Ava's amazing ability to walk between them, as if she is the first human on the planet to ever do so. Later, we played some board games as Ava slept.
Again, we would like to give a shout out to daylight savings time.

Look at the smiles on the faces of Dan and Ju, Dave and Caitlin. And soon your Uncle Mike will be flying in from New York, so anxious to meet you.

Don't you just love daylight savings time? That whole "hour of extra sleep" is only for people without young kids in the house! (Zach wanted us up at 4:30. We said "ngrh".)
