

Anne, Scott and Ava appeared in Dane County Circuit Court today to finalize their adoption process in the State of Wisconsin. They had already completed the adoption process for China and the United States, but this final step grants Ava a Wisconsin birth certificate in addition to her certificate from China, which is in Chinese.
Ava immediately felt at home when we appeared before the Honorable Shelley J. Gaylord. As Anne and Scott sat down at the table and were sworn in, Ava sat on Anne's lap and kicked her sandled feet up onto the table and kept them there. Ava was prepared to relax in court and make it a casual affair. The judge definitely thought it was cute.
After the five minute proceedings which had Mama and Dada nodding and answering a number of questions, the judge asked if Ava would like to sit in her giant, leather chair behind the bench. Ava was just dwarfed by it, but it was a cool sight to see. Judge Ava. The judge then asked if she would want a teddy bear and she was able to pick one out from a big box. (We REALLY should have had a camera along, the judge even asked if we wanted to take a picture, but like the idiots we are sometimes, we didn't bring one.) Instead, we took the above pictures of Ava in her dress and holding the bear she picked out.

Brilliant. We've not done the stateside adoption of our Ava yet, so good for you guys getting it done. We have this dream of being international travelers someday & keep thinking that we'v got to do the adoption, so Ava can have a US passport. So much to do, so many things to procrastinate about...

That is fantastic! I am, however, shocked that you do not have a camera on your person at all times. Truly shocked.
