Scott has been busy filling his days with new and exciting Ava-oriented activities. Most recently, Scott and Ava joined their first play group in Verona, courtesy of our friend Kendra. Ava really enjoyed playing with the other three children, all fairly close in age, two boys and two girls. As is expected when a group of parents get together, Scott learned about another free, exciting activity for Ava during the winter months -- playtime at Keva Sports Center in nearby Middleton. He's definintely going to check that out, and possibly meet up with some of the other stay-at-homes he met today.Scott has also enrolled Ava in the Verona Library reading group on Fridays. Children play with bubbles, listen to stories, color, wander around aimlessly, etc.
Scott has also become a regular visitor to Olbrich Botanical Gardens where Ava and Scott explore the tropical dome, watching for birds and fish, which are two of Ava's favorite creatures. Besides the dome, Ava is really interested in the entrance to the Olbrich business offices and often proceeds toward the open door.
Time is also being spent watching -- again -- fish and birds (plus cats!) at an area pet store, meeting Anne or friends for lunch, zipping around Target looking for Uncle Dave, or wandering the hallways at Hilldale Mall. "The Holidays are at Hilldale!" Man, I just can't get their jingle out of my head.
Scott gave The Little Gym a whirl a few weeks ago on a trial basis. His analysis was basically, "this was way over Ava's head right now and seemed geared toward creating the next generation of hyperactive children." Instructor says, "Okay, let's open the parachute, okay, let's walk in a circle, okay, let's do the 'all done' sign, okay, let's do a somersault on the balance beam." Not kidding. Scott felt there were waaaay too many activities packed into 50 minutes for a 14-month-old child to comprehend. Nonetheless, he thought it was a great place, and will likely sign her up for the next semester when she's a little older and is able to perform stunts on the parallel bars.

The trouble with living in the Orlando area is that most things are tourist oriented and come with a nice little price tag. Hearing about all of Scott's finds remind me of when we lived in Cheyenne WY.... Josh and I did all of that stuff. :) We do story time at the Library and Barnes and Noble... have a playgroup of other China Mommies and we also belong to The Little Gym and it's been great for Gracie (mind you she was about to turn 18 mos when we started going)... we have even met another mom there who just returned home from China with her second baby... first one is now 3 and from Chongqing!

P.S.... Did you guys see the beach pics on our blog? LOL... we went last weekend... Ed wanted to make sure I shared that with you guys. But honestly... I would love the snow!!
