Immediately following our last post, we hopped on a taxi and visited the Temple of Heaven, a place of frequent use during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It was amazing to visit these building from the 1400's. The top two pictures show some of these structures. You'll also notice Anne with two new friends, Frank and Gloria from China. They approached us outside the temple and wanted to practice their english skills. Most everyone has been very friendly. One girl even came up to us and asked to have her photo taken with us.
One thing really struck us while wandering the many pathways and parks around the temple complex -- tons of people were out and being active. Tai chi, modern dance, hacky sack, etc. After you've seen a group of 70-year-old women playing hacky sack, you realize that Americans need to start moving a lot more! There was even a "playground" for adults, and there had to be at least thirty people in their 50s, 60s and 70s doing gymnastics, swinging, etc. There were also quite a few musicians just playing for the enjoyment of it, which was wonderful.
While at the park, we also bought three small, original oil paintings of Chinese minority women. Absolutely beautiful, from an art school and quite inexpensive. Amazing find.

second comment in a row guys: I'm keeping ya company. (: Love the pictures - so surreal to see Scott and Anne chilling in front of an ancient Chinese temple. You guys look great!
Cool point about the active Chinese - I can imagine it. You'll probably see far fewer obese people there, I bet.
Lookin' forward to more bloggishness.
Love, Dan
From Matt & Becki-
Very exciting, guys!!! Yours is an amazing journey. Can't wait to check in on you tomorrow.
Best of luck. We'll (well, I'll) have a glass of wine on the porch tonight and think of you guys.
From Stacey:
Glad to hear things are going well - with the exception of the laptop! Interesting activity level - I guess the KFC in the background of your Sept 10 photo is for the tourists????
I hope you've figured out the lights by now!
We've decided to revamp the website while you're gone and are now sending visitors directly to cheese in china... ha ha - maybe it's KFC in China?
Enjoy the trip - you'll be with Ava soon!!!!
Omigosh this is wonderful! We all get in on the trip!
When we go to our "senior" exercise class tomorrow, we'll tell everyone about the playground for adults. Perhaps we can get UW-Fox to add one, maybe next to the children's daycare center where you used to work Annie (-:
Thank you for sharing your adventure and love and best wishes every day xoxoxo G & G Loew
Wow - thanks for the news, can hardly believe it. I would be so, so anxious and wanting to peak at Ava! Enjoy the travels together. You have only missed rain for the past two days in Verona, also a very wet cold Ironman gathering. All is well. Thanks for sharing your time.
We're here! Left you guys a voicemail...can't wait to meet in person!
Lisa :)
